Stories of success, and failure

 Jonathan: 

Whilst the ladies in our team got to have some WOW time (women of the word!), the chaps got to spend some quality time with the "K"team!

A group of key leaders from around Kolkata that gather once a month with Benjamin Francis to share fellowship and encourage one another in their disciple making.

We heard some amazing stories of healings and visions, and how ordinary followers of Jesus who were prepared to step out in faith, and be there at the right moment, made all the difference to these men and their wives and families becoming disciples and disciple makers.

But we also heard about their failures and challenges. People who seemed eager but fell away, hundreds of groups led astray by one person, unwise decisions leading to perhaps avoidable persecution. Struggles with spiritual warfare and the realities of a country full of idol worship.

We gained insights into strategy and the importance of a lifestyle of prayer and the fundamental foundation of real relationships.

I came away with my head as full as my stomach had been the night before after an amazing Indian feast.

The day ended however with a fantastic spiritual work out of multilingual praise worship and prayer, Kolkata style, and prayers of blessing for multiplication being heaped upon us, by our remarkable, yet humble, brothers and sisters in Jesus.

 From Sarah:  I am really excited to go to India with the YBA team and meet Biglife team already there. I am excited to connect with local Christians and learn how they share the good news of Jesus in their contexts. I am currently living in a underserved, diverse neighbourhood in Sheffield and I am really keen learn how to connect with my neighbours and people who would not traditionally go into a church building. On my return from India, I particularly want to encourage my church to become an accessible place for people from every nation. It will be such a privilege to learn from the people we meet and see church done in a different context, I can't wait to get out there!

 From Jonathan:  Jonathan When I was 21 I went to India for the first time. I had never been abroad before and it was quite literally a culture shock! I was overwhelmed by the sights, sounds and smells, but also by the warmth and welcome of the people. It was also hard coming home to our "green and pleasant land" after experiencing such challenging levels of poverty and spiritual darkness. I go this time, significantly older and hopefully a bit wiser, but certainly more prepared! I go also with a sense of connection I didn't have before. Through Biglife, I have heard their stories and seen their faith in action. I am excited about having an opportunity to learn from my brothers and sisters in India, to give a little and receive much.
